THOMPSON: A DECAYING MIDDLE SCHOOL
As with the elementary schools, the new math tests in 2012 and the new reading tests in 2013 lowered middle school pass rates statewide.
The picture, again, is further complicated by Richmond’s failure, under the “leadership” of Superintendent Brandon, to align its curricula to the new tests, taking Richmond’s already dismal scores into further decline.
As to math, Thompson (our neighborhood middle school) had dropped so far by 2012 that the new tests hardly touched it.
In contrast, the new reading tests in 2013 flushed the reading pass rates at Thompson.
Note that even the best of those scores (6th grade math) is only 59% of the state average; the worst (7th grade math) is 29% of the state average.
Indeed, except for the 6th grade math score, Thompson looks bad even compared to the Richmond average.
It hardly comes as a surprise that Thompson was one of ten schools denied state accreditation for the current school year.
The Constitution prohibits subjecting criminals to cruel and unusual punishment. Richmond last year sentenced 504 innocent students to this awful school. Is it any wonder there are hardly any school age children in my Richmond neighborhood?
Your tax dollars at “work.”
