So, in addition to the buckling of the gymnasium floor at Huguenot rendering it useless, there is now apparently a wide crack that has appeared between two classrooms due to failing foundation from what sounds like improper excavation and/or preparation prior to construction so water under the foundation appears to be eroding the ground beneath the foundation.
I have heard this will not be covered by any warranty due to some kind of financial arrangement crafted by the former mayor's office but I'm uncertain of those details... but that just sounds crazy, grossly negligent, maybe even criminally negligent, not sure. This is a REALLY big deal, in our newest facility, the cost of which was about $110 million.
This is the 11th hour folks, we’re either going to commit to funding facilities and properly bidding/ procuring at RPS, appropriate and transparent oversight of all planning/spending or admit education and facilities are not a priority.
Never have I seen so many self absorbed politicians doing so little while taking so many selfies and proclaiming absolute support for public schools. I would like answers to the following questions. How did the newest crack appear?
Was it a slow event or did the ground erode under the foundation enough to make the foundation give all at once? What would happen in this building if we had a small earthquake?
If water continues to erode the soil under the foundation, how stable is the facility long/short term? I can’t believe we're having to ask these questions on a new facility, like we're living in a third world country where politics and money lead to corrupt procurement, shady business dealings, and shoddy construction.
