UPDATED 8:30 p.m./Feb 22, 2016* Scroll to end of post to view Judkins' Offer letter from Byron Marshall, former Richmond CAO.
Pity Richmond Circuit Court Judge Bradley B. Cavedo and the poor (and getting poorer by the minute) taxpayers of the City of Richmond.
The cast of Richmond's own reality show will assemble in his courtroom Monday in yet another tawdry and shameful episode of why Richmond City Government is such a hot mess.
- Sharon O. Judkins, fired from her job as Deputy CAO for the City of Richmond May 16, 2014, will be there as will her attorney, Verbena Askew. Judkins is suing the City of Richmond for $10.7 million alleging breach of contract. She is also asking the court to accept that she has suffered post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a result of being fired.
- City Auditor Umesh Dalal and attorney, Stanley G. Barr, will be there. Barr's taxpayer-paid legal fees thus far are more than $164,000, according to Tammy D. Hawley, press secretary for Mayor Dwight C. Jones.
- Stephen Hall, deputy City Attorney, will be representing the city.
Once I cleaned the kitchen, I decided to find out what would compel a grown woman of a certain age making $166,260 to bring even more publicity upon her situation and to think any other adult on the planet would agree with her claim of suffering PTSD? So, I filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to see how much she was actually paid.
After studying the numbers, I can't help but feel sickened and sad. How many other people in City Hall have this sort of a package?
How many others walk around with this outrageous sense of hubris and entitlement that lets them tell teachers, police officers, fire fighters and the truly dedicated city employees that there just isn't enough money to pay them what they deserve?
What kind of a moral code allows Mayor Dwight C. Jones to make sure his cronies get to rake in millions of dollars on construction contracts and members of his church get cushy jobs while Jones preaches about pie-in-the-sky deals such as the Redskins Field and the bike race that never live up to the projected promises from his pulpit?
Why do the members of Richmond Public School Board and Superintendent Dana Bedden have to beg -- yes, beg -- for the money to fix the schools that are literally falling on kids' heads?
Maybe the people on City Council -- with the notable exception of 8th-District member Reva Trammell -- have been too busy dreaming of higher offices to actually do the job they are supposed to do?
Maybe, "We the People," should sue the city for our own collective PTSD that results from enduring this stupid and wasteful spectacle over and over and over again?
