[Editor's Note: Jeff Bourne, chairman of the City of Richmond School Board, and I have long been fans of the people who have made Richmond Cycling Corps a reality. We have wished that we could do more to make not only Richmond citizens aware of their extraordinary efforts, but to tell our story to the whole wide world as well. ~ CW]
Matt Crane here, with a very special report for you all:
I will tell you this about Craig Dodson. He did not start Richmond Cycling Corps fully cognizant of the vast spectrum of adversity and need faced by young people in public housing. That story, the story of our youth's struggle, has unfolded in astonishing depth over the last six years, and continues to do so.

The bike is only the beginning; our work is more than anything a process of digging deeper on a daily basis into the ills of poverty, mining for truth and solutions so that we might help youth escape it (poverty). We have been attempting for some time to turn around and share what we find with you, much of it right here on Facebook.
Today we are humbled, honored, and incredibly grateful that the story we have been excavating will be shared nationally over the coming weeks. Craig was selected at 8am this morning as one of the TOP TEN CNN Heroes for 2016! What the youth of RCC are doing on bikes (and especially off bikes) is about to hit national airwaves in a BIG way.
One of the most wrenching aspects of working with youth marginalized by society is that their neglect extends to the attention they receive; they are overlooked, tucked away in slowly suffocating corners of the inner-city.

Thank you CNN for choosing us, and for helping to shine a light on young people, specifically those living in Richmond's poverty dense east end public housing communities.
They need this. Do you like this as much as we do?
There's icing on the cake. We're a group of (former) highly competitive athletes, and are, after all, a sports program in many ways. So we like to WIN. We like to win a lot.
Help us take home $100,000 by voting for us as CNN Hero of the year! You can vote today, and every day, to help us take home a sum that will make HUGE strides for this program. Join us, and tell your friends...we can do this!
